Across 7,141 player-weeks, consensus closing lines predicted weekly fantasy scoring at 4.96 MAE against 5.54 for the player’s own trailing average.
Do Vegas betting lines predict fantasy football scoring?
Betting markets are treated in fantasy content as a betting tool. Projection systems are built from stats, and the lines are consulted, if at all, for game environment.
Consensus closing player lines — cross-market medians across receptions, receiving and rushing and passing yards, and anytime touchdown — predicted weekly fantasy scoring more accurately than the player’s own recent scoring at every position: 4.96 mean absolute error against 5.54 PPR, over 7,141 player-weeks. Early-season consensus lines predicted rest-of-season output at r = 0.827 in both 2024 and 2025, against r ≈ 0.73–0.75 for prior-year production.
A closing line is the aggregated forecast of participants who lose money for being wrong, updated continuously with injury, role and weather information. It is the most honest public forecast of player production that exists, and it is free to read.
Player lines are pulled across books, reduced to a cross-market median, converted to an implied fantasy point total under the relevant scoring, and graded against realised outcomes. 349,000+ graded lines are held in the database.
Figures on this page come from the GWTTKB methodology report, where the full testing record is published.
This is research into what predicts production, not betting advice. Nothing here says a line is mispriced or that any wager has positive expectation — the finding is precisely the opposite, that the market is well calibrated, which is why it is useful as a forecast.
