How this works
Redraft value is points over replacement, not projected points. A back projected for 240 is not worth twice a tight end projected for 120, because the tight end you would otherwise have started scores far less than the back you would otherwise have started. What a player is worth is the gap between him and the man who takes his place.
Replacement level moves with your settings. A 10-team league has a far better waiver wire than a 14-team league, so the same player is worth less in the smaller one. In superflex roughly twice as many quarterbacks start each week, so replacement at the position moves much deeper and elite quarterbacks gain real ground. Value here is a decaying function of rank with a replacement cliff at your league’s last starting slot — past that line a player is waiver-wire depth rather than an asset, and the curve keeps falling instead of flattening out.
Why the best player in a deal is worth more than the sum. A starting lineup has a fixed number of slots and only one can hold your best player, so depth converts to wins at a steep discount. Every asset is therefore priced through a non-linear transform before the sides are compared: a player worth half the best asset in the trade carries roughly a quarter of its weight, and one worth a third carries about a tenth. The two sides are equal when those transformed totals match — not when the raw values do. That single property is what makes four quarters fail to equal a dollar, and it is why consolidating two good players into one great one is usually the winning side of a deal. The number shown as the adjustment is solved for last: it is the ordinary value that would have to join the lighter side to bring the transformed totals level.
What the numbers are built on. The engine is fitted on every statistical category the NFL has recorded since 2002 — over four million player-game observations — joined to closing prices from multiple prediction markets, so a projection is anchored to what the market actually priced rather than to opinion alone. Rankings and values regenerate from that same pipeline, which is why the calculator, the rankings page and the Coach never disagree about a player: there is one source and one curve underneath all three.
What this does not know. Your roster, your record, your bye weeks and whether you are contending. A calculator prices players; it cannot price your situation. If you are 1-4 and need upside, the fair trade and the right trade are different things.
